The Greek and Roman myths of mermaids said Aquamarine came from their treasure chests deep in their watery realms. Historically, seafarers and merchants wore aquamarine for protection and for prosperous journeys.

The Sumerians, Egyptians and Hebrews held the stone as a symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. Beads of Aquamarines have been found in ancient Egyptian mummy pits. It is held in quite high regard in the East as the Stone of the Seer and Mystic, a gemstone that imparts purity to the wearer, as well as encouraging the gentle nature and personality in the wearer. The Romans also heralded the use of Aquamarine as a storehouse of young love. “When blessed , it joins in love, and does great things.” it is a life-long lovers stone. This might be why, in Medieval times, the stone was used to reawaken the love.
